HOW DOES CRANIO-SACRAL THERAPY WORK?Have you ever wondered how your body usually repairs itself? And when a problem hangs around for a long time, why the normal self-repair systems have not worked? CST has an answer to both these questions.
This extremely gentle therapy uses no manipulation, but nevertheless is a way of working with the anatomical structures and physiological systems of the body. It has been found that muscles do not resist this very light touch, so it is possible to work directly with the connective tissue system
CST is a form of physical therapy which applies very light pressure (about the weight of a 20p piece).
Wherever there is a place of reduced mobility in the body, all the normal physiological movements create an interference pattern round it, similar to ripples in a pond. CST practitioners use their hands to "listen" to these tiny movements. This method is used to identify the source of a problem, and to assist your body's natural self-repair movements to complete what they are trying to do - that is - increase local mobility.
Loss of tissue mobility in a part of the body results in slightly increased local presure on nerves and blood vessels, and so prevents tissue repair. CST techniques which remobilise this tissue enable the body to resume its normal metabolism, and it then naturally looks after itself.
CST is "Cranio-Sacral" because the most important part of your body is the head and spine. If movements of nerves, tissues and fluid are easy in these two places, the rest of your body is much more able to take care of itself
