Babies - treatment, and natural births

  • Norwich Birth Group - Doula services : support for mothers before and after birth and support for home births. This is a wonderful resource for expectant mothers in the area round NORWICH.
  • Deirdre Youngs - Birth process work for adults. Marvellous stuff - everyone I know who has used this has found it to be remarkably helpful in changing behavioural patterns which do not have an accessible verbal component - and they are often non-verbal because the patterns imprinted before learning to talk. Deirdre also assists new parents and parents-to-be.
  • Alpha Music - John Levines music has remarkable effects on mothers, children and babies - see particularly the Shells albums and Silence of Peace

The two BEBA clinic Birth Awareness pamphlets on "Being with Babies" are available from David Haas, 53 Martins Wood, Milford, Surrey GU8 5DB, both at £4.49 each, plus £1 p&p for one booklet, and an extra £0.25 p&p per extra booklet.
  • Hypno Birth http://www.birthbody.info - Childbirth education, Self-hypnosis assisted births and breathing/relaxation training
  • US OMAEP site (in English). Babies are intelligent, and able to fully understand what is going on around them. Much observation has shown that babies respond very positively to being treated as fully functioning human beings. Because they cannot verbally communicate, and becaue their consciousness is primarily emotional and a bit slower than an adults, this requires patience.
Babies also benefit from people around them being honest about their emotions - this gives the baby a lot of help because they are receiving congruent (unmixed) messages. With congruent messages, they grow into children and adults who find it easy to distinguish their own emotions from those of people around them, and who are able to be honest to themselves about their own feelings. Take my word for it - those abilities are worth more than their weight in gold.
  • At this point it's worth mentioning the Jeiyrani Center (sorry, no link available) in London - run by obstetric paediatrician Dr. Gowri Motha, this centre incorporates Reflexology, CST, ayurvedic herbalism, self-hypnosis and creative visualisation into a very effective pre- and post-natal package.
  • Cranio Sacral Association page on treatment of children
  • a good article in the Daily Telegraph on home birth assisted by an independent midwife
  • The Fountain Clinic in Islington, London is the only purely CST clinic I know of in the UK which specialises in Babies. However, most CST practitioners either treat babies, or can put you in touch with someone who does. See the Upledger and Other organisation links above (especially if you live outside London).
  • Pediatric Osteopathy has been practiced from the Osteopathic Center for Children in London (UK) and Dublin (Eire) for some time, and these centers have an international reputation.
  • The Centre for Holistic Pediatric Education and ResearchChildrens hospital, Boston - research into integration of Mainstream, Alternative and Complementary therapies.
  • Freebirth Webring - a group of websites devoted to natural birth
  • UK parents commercial website
  • Humourous baby birth page - learn how the other half cope with having a baby
